Cannabis tour, anyone? Pot producers set to cash in on Ontario changes that welcome farm gate operations

Being able to actually pick up a purchase on site would be “a game-changer”

The farm-gates have opened.

The Ontario government’s decision to lift the lid on the cannabis market isn’t just a win for consumers, growers have also gained new revenues stream and tourism appeal through the ability to open a retail store at their production sites.

Small producers, in particular, stand to gain the most, said Craig Wiggins, a managing director at independent analysis firm, TheCannalysts. “For the bigger ones, it will be a bit of a branding exercise,” Wiggins said. “But the ones it will actually move the needle for are the smaller ones — the craft grows in the Muskokas, the ones in Niagara the wine region” of Ontario, he said.

“Amendments in legislation provide us with the opportunity to respond to consumer needs,” said Nathan Woodworth, president and CEO of JWC. “We plan to move forward as quickly as the regulatory and permitting process allows,” Woodworth noted in a statement.
